Rogaland Art Center
Is a public institution for fine art and handcrafts whose primary aims are
to:
Stimulate increased
use of, and knowledge about, contemporary art.
Promote aesthetic values
and protect artist’s interests in the face of increased
commercialisation.
The most obvious of the art centre’s many activities is a program
of contemporary
exhibitions at our gallery in the middle of Stavanger. Additionally we work
actively with commission projects to ensure that contemporary art is an
active component of all types of public and private buildings.
Rogaland Arts Centre is a service and competence centre that supplies all
sectors of society with information. If you have questions about artists,
artworks, artists for commission, stipends & grants, art education,
artist’s organisations, etc. one will gain help and advice at Rogaland
Art Centre.
A summary of our activities:
Exhibition
program
Rogaland Arts Centre has a gallery space for its contemporary art exhibitions.
Since 1996 this program has focussed upon new, experimental and exciting
contemporary Norwegian and international art. The program is composed by
curator(s) one year at a time.
Gry Hege Rinaldo and Anne Helen Robberstad shall be responsible for the
2004
program. Application deadline is 1.01.2003
Guided Tours
Pedagogic presentation of contemporary art is a priority. Arts Centre offers
free-
guided tours to all school classes. Other groups are also catered for by
appointment. In addition, the mounting period & exhibition openings
at the gallery give the public the chance to meet participating artists.
Touring Exhibitions
Rogaland Arts Centre produces touring exhibitions with included pedagogic
material. These are offered to schools and other institutes throughout the
county of Rogaland.
Art Sales
Our shop offers a varied and exciting range of fine art and handcrafted
objects in all price categories. Our staff is happy to help private individuals
and larger firms to purchase art for all occasions: private investment,
gifts or office decoration. Local artists who are members of the various
official societies are well represented, and, supplemented by examples of
work produced all over Norway.
Public Art
Projects and Private Commissions
Rogaland Arts Centre works with the philosophy that good art is a natural
part of all large build projects that affect the local milieu. Art’s
combination with architecture can lead to increased awareness, enjoyment
and identity for the community. The public thus experience that art becomes
a natural and enriching part of the environment. In addition, the artist
is given an opportunity to use their expertise to increase the quality of
people’s everyday existence.
Rogaland Arts Centre therefore offers its services to all large building
projects, both public and private. The centre offers information regarding
local and national professional artists with examples of their previous
work.
Artists Studios
As part of its service to the local artists community Rogaland Arts Centre
has for
many years administrated a large studio complex in neighbouring Sandnes,
called The Bicycle Factory. This studio complex shall relocate in 2003.
Thus we are presently negotiating new
facilities, and, developing a database of all atelier facilities in the
county. This database will, in the future, ensure more effective co-operation
and exchange projects with our partners abroad (for example Bilbao &
Berlin).
Other activities
Lectures/Seminars & conferences are arranged for artists and public.
Rogaland Arts Centre offers an art loan/hiring service for private and business.
The gallery can be hired for a variety of arrangements.
